Interview with Challis McDonough, Senior Communications Officer, World Food Program At the 2017 Global Disaster Relief and Development Summit in Washington, D.C., Challis McDonough spoke to the Aid and International Development Forum about the WFP’s recent initiatives and her perspectives on disaster relief. The WFP’s recent initiatives include school meal programs and connecting farmers to markets. She believes one of the issues weakening disaster management is how the sector has minimal collaboration, which is crucial to improving disaster responses.

The 9th Global Disaster Relief & Development Summit gathered over 300 senior decision-makers from UN and government agencies, Red Cross, NGOs, military, donors, foundations, research institutes and the private sector companies involved in aid and development.

The Summit agenda expanded its scope beyond disaster relief and looked into emerging global challenges, innovations and opportunities in international aid and development sector.

The 70+ expert speaker panel shared valuable insights, lead thought provoking discussions and lively exchange of views on a range of vital topics including emergency procurement, data & ICT, humanitarian logistics, disaster response management, health resilience, emergency health & WASH, supply chain, partnerships and financing of aid programmes.
